About

Rocky View County is developing a Tourism Strategy to help guide where and how tourism-related development may be supported and managed across the County.

Located in the Calgary region, Rocky View County is well-positioned to welcome day visitors and overnight guests who are looking for authentic rural experiences, and outdoor recreation. At the same time, we recognize that tourism-related development must be planned and managed carefully so it respects rural character, agricultural operations, environmentally sensitive areas, transportation safety, infrastructure capacity, and quality of life for residents.

The project will consider how to balance tourism-related growth with key County priorities such as agriculture, environmental stewardship, transportation safety, infrastructure capacity, and quality of life for residents.

This project is part of the County’s Emerging Sector Strategy and focuses on future planning and decision-making for tourism-related development. It will consider opportunities such as nature-based tourism and agri-tourism, while also identifying potential concerns, constraints, and criteria that should guide where tourism uses may be appropriate.

The project is currently in Phase 1. During this phase, the County is gathering public and stakeholder input, reviewing best practices, and identifying issues and opportunities. The results will be summarized and presented to Council, along with an Options Report outlining possible next steps for future phases.
